MasterCraft X-Series – Orlando, FL

May 6, 2008History Channel – “The Axemen”, Vernonia, OR
November 2, 2007Original Productions, (the production company that produces “Deadliest Catch”), is shooting a new show based on a similar format. This time they are covering the lives of career loggers in the Pacific Northwest. “The Axemen” will be a 13 part series airing this spring on The History Channel. Four camera teams are covering four different companies. I’m covering Stump Branch Logging, based out of Vernonia, OR. This site is a salvage logging job that Stump Branch is doing for the State of Oregon cleaning up a huge blow down area from our severe windstorm of 2006.
Due to mountainside scrambling that each camera crew has to do, as well as danger to equipment, the show is shot in HDV with Sony Z1-U and V1-U cameras in 30p format. Six wireless channels of audio are being run to my camera via the units in my waist pack
The “Yoader” is a combination yarder and loader that hauls logs up the hillside once the choke setter wraps the choker cable around each log. Once they are hauled up to the landing, a shovel loader uses huge clamping teeth to pick up the logs and place them in the staging area where they will be bucked, (de-branched) and cut into 40 foot lengths

Loggers affectionately call their work trucks “Crummies” as they are usually older 4 wheel drive pick ups they buy used for cheap. They get absolutely thrashed every day. Our crummy was a bit nicer, a new Ford F-150 on loan from Astoria

October 28, 2007MasterCraft X-Star Commercial, Orlando FL.
October 3, 2007Bump Films teamed up with Alex Fostvedt and Mario Cater of Freeride Films to shoot the new MasterCraft X-Star commerical at Lake Wales, FL.

Freeride Films lastest Ninja Cam rig. This was rigged over a 800 ft. span across the lake.

Camera sled hooked up to the cables. A Panasonic HVX-200 was used to check the shot for the test run day. The commerical was shot in Super 16 with an Arri High Speed SRII.

Mark and Alex set up a shot with Mario behind controlling the sled speed.

Shane Bonifay doubles up for his afternoon set.
Rusty Malinoski fractured his wrist the day before but decided to wrap his cast with one inch gaffers tape and ride anyway…

Formula Drift at Infineon Raceway – Sonoma, CA 8/11
August 15, 2007Infineon Raceway hosted one of the new car racing sports brought over from Japan called Drifting. Cars race in tandem side by side around the track in a 4 wheel drift.

Here is what happens when a drift car comes into the first corner too hot. Notice that I am shooting from scaffolding on the far right of the shot. The car lost control at about 60mph and plowed into the concrete “K” rail barrier. It pushed it almost three feet, (these way over a ton each!), into my scaffolding and raised the front legs off the ground before sliding me back a few feet. Too close for comfort.
Red Bull Ryan Sheckler Skate Movie 2/07
July 23, 2007February saw my first trip to the Middle East with a job shooting the making of the new Ryan Sheckler skate film for Red Bull in Dubai. There is so much construction going on over there its just insane. There are half built skyscrapers everywhere!
